Migration into OECD countries fell by about 7% in 2009 to 4.3 million people, down from just over 4.5 million in 2008. Recent national data suggest migration numbers fell further in 2010, the 2011 International Migration Outlook says.

The decline is particularly marked in Asian OECD countries and in Europe, notably the Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Movement between EU member states fell by 22% in 2009. But permanent migration to Australia, Canada and the US rose slightly.

The 2010 ECRP Call for Proposals in the social sciences (ECRP VI) was launched by the European Science Foundation on 12 January with the support of 20 ECRP funding organisations (EFOs) in 19 countries. The deadline for submission of applications is
10 March 2010, 16.00 (CET).

The ECRP scheme is designed to promote multinational research collaboration in the social sciences by facilitating academic cooperation and pooling of expertise in Europe and beyond. The scheme offers the opportunity to carry out investigator-driven multinational research projects on any topic in the social sciences which demands international research collaboration. ECRP applications must involve researchers in a minimum of three participating countries.
